My personal manifesto about the widely misunderstood field of real-time computing...

"I don't understand why people are frightened of new ideas. It's the old ideas that frighten me."

Timeliness Optimality

Examples of very popular timeliness optimality factors in real-time system sequencing criteria (these are widely used for both scheduling and dispatching) include

bullet "meet all deadlines"
bullet "meet all hard deadlines"
bullet "minimize the number of missed deadlines"
bullet "minimize total tardiness"
bullet"minimize mean tardiness."

If time/utility function time constraints are used, the timeliness optimality factor is usually in terms of accrued utility - e.g., "maximize the summed utilities."
